When you have any artistic addition in the appearance ie., colour, shape, painting pattern, structure etc., which does not add any technical value or bring change in the working mechanism or work output of an existing product (patented / non patented) represented by two / three dimensional picture shall be filed for a design patent. Design changes and patents usually are obtained or implemented only for the purpose of adding commercial value to any existing product.
